Please note that updates have been made to the Class 1 Solo lists on the PML – including additions, deletions, and changes to levels.  You are encouraged to verify in advance that all selections your students prepare for UIL S&E are current to the 2018-2019 PML: http://www.uiltexas.org/music/pml, as the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules States the following:

Prescribed Music List (PML) — Music — University ...

www.uiltexas.org

The 2019-2020 PML is NOT live yet. Updates this year will include all band, choir, and orchestra large ensemble lists, PLUS all Class 1 solo lists and percussion ensembles. UPDATE IN FALL 2019

(1) Required Selections. The required selections to be performed by all classes of soloists and ensembles will be published in the Prescribed Music List (on the UIL website). Soloists or ensembles that do not perform selections appearing on the prescribed lists will be disqualified. If only one movement of a multi-movement selection is performed, that movement shall be designated on the entry form.

The PML Committees in all three divisions – band, choir, and orchestra - requested that UIL begin a review of the Solo and Ensemble literature, starting with the Class 1 lists – most difficult.  Due to the thousands of pieces to be reviewed (there are now over 19,000 titles on the PML) the committees collectively recommended that university studio teachers who are experts on this level literature and who typically judge these events be asked to review the Class 1 lists.  UIL took this recommendation forward and the review of Class 1 solos was completed in the summer of 2019.  We then finished the online updates in early September and posted all information to our website at http://www.uiltexas.org/music/pml and also on the announcement here on September 7th:

http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/PML_and_State_Marching_Updates.pdf.  Please note that there is a new input process outlined on this page, as well.

If you have private teachers and/or other directors involved in assigning solos to your students, please share this information with them as well.
